My First Blog!

Hi everyone! My name is Darlene and I am a graduate student studying Health Services Administration (but most of you reading this already know that!) and will graduate in May of 2008! Graduate school has been a long road but I am starting to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! I currently work as a patient services specialist at the student health center on campus in addition to interning at the Orlando VA Medical Center this summer...no rest for the weary (although a nap every now and then would be nice)! I have a passion for healthcare, especially in the field of health education and health promotion. I hope to one day create and implement heatlh awareness and prevention programs to our nation's schools and indigent communities.

My greatest joy comes from changing the health and lives of others. As cliche as it may sound, I do believe that one person can make a huge impact on the lives of many. My other sources of joy can be attributed to my wonderful boyfriend Tom, my family, friends, and my spirituality...oh no, I almost forgot...and my cat! My other interests include travel, wine, jazz, cooking, intelligent conversation, reading, shopping, being outdoors, and new experiences that make you grow as an individual and push you to step outside your comfort zone.

Enough about me...onto ethics in healthcare! This is my first blogging experience and is the result of my course in healthcare ethics. Over the next eight weeks, I will be frequently posting my thoughts, ideas, concerns, and feelings concerning ethical issues found in the healthcare industry. Happy reading (and blogging) to all who visit!

Darlene :)
